I haven’t really spoken about my favourite beauty tools on my blog yet, and I thought this would be really helpful to others. Unlike makeup products, my favourite beauty tools never really change.

The Best Tinted Moisturizer

For months, I was looking for a perfect tinted moisturizer for my skin. I needed one that offered a large shade range to fit my uber pale skin, one that wouldn’t break me out, one that gave a natural finish, but most importantly, one that lasted all day, even in the summer heat. I have finally found “The One.” Nars Tinted Moisturizer does all of those things and more.

I bought this a few months back in Sephora, after looking for an easy base to wear every day. I had been taking a long break from makeup, and I started to feel like all of my other bases began to feel too heavy on my skin. I got matched up to wear the shade Alaska, but it isn’t a perfect match for skin (thanks to the lights in Sephora). However, it isn’t a huge deal as it’s a tinted moisturizer that blends easily.

The formula of the moisturizer is oil-free, but it’s still very dewy. That being said if you tend to have a more oily skin type, I would recommend you pair this up with a good setting powder. The fragrance is very nice but subtle. I personally smell oranges but after further reading I’ve found out that the fragrance is actually completely natural and consists of peonies, violets, and rose water.

This moisturizer is very buildable, so you can either decide to sheer it out and only have a touch of coverage, or you can build it up to make it resemble a more foundation like finish. Either way, you’re not going to get any cakiness. This is also very moisturizing, to the point of some days I will even just use this on my own after I washed my face.

Overall I think this is an amazing product, and it’s definitely been one that I find myself reaching for every day. This may be a more expensive tinted moisturizer, but I really believe it’s worth the money. This is so lightweight and really allows my skin to breath. If you’re looking for a new base, I would definitely recommend this one to try out.

My Sephora VIB Sale Picks

Ahh yes, the famous Sephora sale that comes once a year. Once the sale has begun, that’s when I know the Christmas season has started. That and the Starbucks red cups. Anyway, this is one of my favourite times of year where you’re able to get some of some great makeup brands for a lot less than normal. I decided to put together a list of my picks, in case any of you are wondering what to get!

1. Too Faced Everything Nice Set

Too Faced released a similar palette like this last year, and I never got a hold of one which made me really disappointed. I’m extremely happy that they brought one out again, as there is just so much product in there. I’m familiar with their eyeshadows, having used their Chocolate Bar palette previously, but I’ve been dying to try their bronzers. For the amount that this is actually worth, $68 is a total steal. It’s even a better deal 20% off!

2. Urban Decay Naked2 Basics
I think it is essential for every girl to have a Naked Palette of their own. They are iconic. Urban Decay has recently brought out the Naked2 Basics Palette, a collection of 6 eyeshadows: 5 matte and 1 satin. Urban Decay matte eyeshadows have one of the best formulas I’ve ever tried. If you are looking for a wide variety of shimmer colours though, definitely go for one of the NAKED palettes. Urban Decay sure know how to do eyeshadows.

3. Glamglow Gift Sexy Gift Set
Now this is an insanely good gift set. $76 for one full size Glamglow mask (this is $76 by itself) and two smaller pots (retail for $20 each). This is an awesome idea as you are able to try multiple masks and see which ones work well for your skin. Although this is pricey, I would definitely recommend getting this during the sale as you get almost $16 off the regular price, which is an insanely good deal.

4. Dior Rosy Glow Blush

Although this looks scary bright in the photo, I can promise you it does not show up nearly that bright on your cheeks. This blush is formulated to change colour depending on your body’s natural chemistry, and it makes your face look amazing. Your face will look like it’s glowing from within, like you have spent all day in the snow. Such an amazing blush.

5. Dior Creme De Rose Lip Balm
I originally discovered this lip balm two years ago during this sale. This is the most expensive lip balm I’ve ever tried, but also the best. This is so creamy and so hydrating. Although it is expensive, it’s most definitely worth it.

6. Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer
This is another product I discovered through the sale last year. This is one of the most expensive makeup items I own (that isn’t a palette) but also one of my most loved and used. Makeup goes on so smoothly with this as a base. Although it is expensive, I think you should buy it on sale when you have a chance, because why not?

7. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
So I’ve finally finished up my tube of this, and I must say, I miss using it everyday. I used Chantilly, which was a little light which meant I had to blend it in a bit more, but Vanilla is the perfect match for me. There are shades for all skin tones, and this provides an amazing finish and coverage. One of the best concealers I’ve tried to date.

8. Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer
Although I have not tried this concealer yet, it has been on my wish list for ages. I’ve been looking for a full coverage concealer that isn’t cakey, as I find I don’t need to use foundation as much anymore and I just need to cover some certain areas of my face now. I have heard so many positive things about this concealer, and I can’t wait to try it out for myself!

I hope this list helped some of you out in decided what to purchase this weekend with the sale going on. Let me know if you have any recommendations or what you’ve picked up from the sale!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light

So unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard all about the Ambient Lighting Powders. And here I am, late as always to the party. I bought one of these in June, and I have been testing it ever since (read: forgetting to photograph it).

These are quite expensive little powders. Though they aren’t your classic, chalky, no-shine powder. These are a new kind of a powder. Instead of mattifying the skin, these instead brighten, boost or highlight the skin depending on which one you choose. There are six powders in the range targeted towards all different concerns or “goals”.

The one I have is Diffused Light, a yellow toned powder that’s focusing on toning down redness and also adding a glow. It does just that. It makes my skin tone look so much more even and adds an airbrushed like quality to the skin. This does not only make my skin look smoother, it makes my skin feel smoother too. I feel like this powder has really transformed the way I apply makeup.

If you are interested in purchasing one of these powders, I would suggest reading up on what each of them are targeted towards, just so you can get the best one possible for your concerns.

Although these powders are rather expensive, I definitely believe they are worth it. They will change makeup application for you and they have completely changed the idea of setting powder. This adds a glow to my skin that no other product has. Overall I’m glad I purchased this and I have my eyes on another one already: Dim Light.

My New Favourite Perfume – Diptyque Philosykos

Diptyque PhilosykosI think I may have found one of my new go-to fragrances, Diptyque Philosykos. I bought this in August in Toronto at Holt Renfrew, as my first foray into the Diptyque brand. I’ve heard a lot about the brand, especially their candles and perfumes, and although I wasn’t ready to shell out $60 for a candle, I was quite interested in their perfumes. Continue reading
